Since 1995, Scott Laumann has completed commissions for numerous clients including Time, Rolling Stone, Reader's Digest, GQ, the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Dow Jones, the Grammy Awards, Warner Brothers and Netscape among others. His work has been recognized by and selected into multiple juried shows. He was selected by Print as one of the top 30 New Visual Artists in 2002 and his paintings hang in several private collections including those of Arnold Schwarzenegger and actor Chris WIlliams.
Scott began his career as a freelance illustrator upon moving to San Francisco in the mid-90's. He quickly gained recognition, building an impressive roster of clients and eventually was represented by Gerald & Cullen Rapp in New York City. Over the past decade, he has lived and worked in Spain, Philadelphia, Orange County, Minnesota, San Diego and Germany. He has shown in multiple galleries in the U.S. and abroad.
For the last two years, Scott has taken an extended sabbatical to explore his artistic practice more thoroughly. This has led him to experiment with a wider range of media which more accurately represents his interests. Finding the need to combine his spiritual discipline with his creative pursuits, he continues to develop the concept of devotion as art-making, letting the daily process of discovery guide his course and using multiple, overlapping disciplines to reveal an unseen reality. As Paul Klee said, "Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible."
He currently is living in Karlsruhe, Germany with his wife Alicia and daughter Paloma. His recent work has been primarily concerned with exploring patterns: from nature, in music and existing structures and translating them through different media.
